Cusat to resist move to delink marine science

Passing a special resolution moved by Dean of Marine Sciences H S Ram Mohan, the Senate requested the government not to delink the departments as it would have serious bearings on the research activities of the entire university. Ram Mohan said that over 400 PhDs had been produced from these two departments since their inception.Earlier, a special meeting of the Senate was called to discuss the draft document of the changes proposed in higher education in the state under the auspices of the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC).

In his address, ViceChancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath said the higher education policies needed to be changed at least once in a decade.

The Senate proposed that appointments in aided colleges should be made through the Public Service Commission so as to check the commercialisation in education. It welcomed the decision of the KSHEC to take steps to prevent religious teaching in public education systems.

All the research papers of the university need to be translated into the mother tongue so that the general public will have access to it. Hence, the Department of Publication needs to be actively supported, the senate said.
