Cochin University of Science and Technology to review quota recruitments

KOCHI: Amid growing demands from certain quarters that communities, who lost out after their ‘reserved post’ was converted to ‘open post’, should be compensated while filling the vacant permanent posts of lecturers at Cochin University of Science and Technology,Cusat has appointed a committee to verify roster before notification of posts.

Recently Cusat syndicate decided to fill the vacant permanent faculty posts on a priority basis. “Syndicate had resolved that the standing committee for staff and establishment has to verify the roster before the notification of posts. The report is yet to be submitted,” said Cusat registrar Dr A Ramachandran.

The minutes of the standing committee for staff and establishment held on December 22 reveals: “The committee verified the roster for lecturer posts and pursued the entire appointment made by the university. It observed that many reservation turns were converted either to open or transferred to different communities due to absence of candidates from the concerned authorities.”

“The committee noticed that some of the transferred turns are compensated while some are not,” the minutes added. When contacted, standing committee member, K Zakkariya said: “The roster verification is yet not over. We will finalize the recommendations once the verification task is complete.”

This has delayed the issuance of notification for filling up vacant lecturer posts. The last permanent recruitment in Cusat was in 2006. In 2008-2009, a notification was issued inviting applications from interested candidates for permanent teaching posts at the university. However, it has been kept in abeyance. As a result, the university employs faculty on ad-hoc basis for six months or a year.
