Row over CUSAT elections worsens in Kochi

The factional feud within the Cochin University syndicate members worsened as Youth Congress activists supporting Hibi Eden, MLA, staged a protest against Sunny P. Jose on Thursday. The protest was timed to disrupt the interview for selection of University’s registrar.

Both Mr. Eden and Mr. Jose were part of the interview panel for the selection of the registrar.

Police had to forcibly move the Youth Congress workers who staged a sit-in dharna in front of the administrative building against Mr. Jose. Both Mr. Eden and Mr. Jose had entered into an altercation on Monday over the latter’s decision to nominate K.M. Shaji, MLA of the Muslim League, as syndicate nominee in the three-member search committee for the new vice-chancellor of Cusat. Mr. Eden, too, had applied for the same.

For the position of registrar, apparently an aspirant enjoying the support of the Congress party figured in the rank list.

The next University syndicate meeting will make the final recommendation to the government about the applicants.
