CUSAT to have Internal Probe Panel

CUSAT has decided to set up an internal vigilance committee, aimed at fast-tracking disciplinary action against the university staff, including teaching faculty.

The decision comes in the wake of complaints that bureaucratic delays have slowed down action against staff members and against persons who facing charges of  violating varsity norms.

“Complaints against various staff member are pending for action. In many cases, though the University initiated disciplinary action it was dropped halfway due to various reasons. The committee will look into such cases also,”  said Cusat Vice-chancellor J Letha.

“The committee will be headed by the Vice-chancellor, and will have the Pro-vice-chancellor, registrar and controller of examinations as members.

“Officers of the various sections of the university will be made part of the committee, in order to deal with complaints related the respective sections, if necessary,” said Letha.

The  first case to be considered by the committee is allegation against an associate professor in the Department of Ship Technology who allegedly refused to take up exam-related duties, including ‘question paper setting’ and valuation.

Earlier, the Controller of Examination had asked the teacher to file a show-cause, explaining why action should not be taken against him as per the Act and statutes of the University.
