CUSAT to Install CCTV System on Campus

The Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has decided to install CCTV cameras at key locations on the campus, including examination hall, to ensure security and monitor malpractice during exams.

The Rs 25-lakh 24×7 CCTV surveillance project is expected to become operational within two months. “We have awarded the work to Cisco, and they are expected to complete the work in two months,” said Cusat registrar David Peter.“Cameras will be installed at entry points of exam halls and places visited by the public for various purposes.

In future, cameras will be installed in the various departments and on the campus.

The authorities hope that the surveillance system would bring in transparency in the conduct of examinations. The authorities had decided to install cameras in 2013 as part of e-governance initiatives.

It was announced that KELTRON would be entrusted with the work. However, that project failed to take off.
