സമയം രാവിലെ 7.40. ഈ കേരളപ്പിറവി ദിനത്തില്‍ ക്യാമ്പസ്സില്‍ അല്പസമയം ചെലവഴിക്കാം, കുറച്ചു സെറ്റുടുത്ത മലയാളി മങ്കമാരെ കാണാം എന്നൊക്കെ മനസ്സില്‍ കരുതി ഞാന്‍ കുസാറ്റിലെ അഭിലാഷ്‌ ബസ്‌ സ്റ്റോപ്പില്‍ ഇരിക്കുകയാണ്. എന്‍റെ ഇടതു വശത്തായി ഒരു പ്രായം ചെന്ന സെറ്റുടുത്ത ചേച്ചിയും ഇരിപ്പുണ്ട്. അവര്‍ ഏതോ പുസ്തകം കാര്യമായി വായിക്കുകയാണ്. പ്രാര്‍ഥനയോ നാമജപങ്ങളോ ആണെന്ന് വ്യക്തമാണ്. തിരക്കിട്ടുള്ള വായന ആണെങ്കിലും നല്ലതുപോലെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചാണ് വായിക്കുന്നത്. ഞാന്‍ ഇടയ്ക്കിടെ പുസ്തകം ഏതാണെന്നറിയാന്‍ നോക്കും. ഒരു ജിജ്ഞാസ. പക്ഷെ…

കൊച്ചിന്‍ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയില്‍ ഒരു ഗവേഷകവിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥിയായി ഞാന്‍ പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നത് 2007-ല്‍ ആണ്. എന്‍റെ ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദം നേടിയതും ഇവിടെ വെച്ച് തന്നെ ആയിരുന്നു. ആ കാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ ഹോസ്റ്റല്‍ ജീവിതത്തിന്‍റെ മധുര സ്മരണകള്‍ ആണ് റിസേര്‍ച്ച് ചെയ്യാന്‍ ഉള്ള ധൈര്യം എനിക്ക് നല്‍കിയത്. ദൈവം സഹായിച്ചതു പോലെ ജോയിന്‍ ചെയ്തു രണ്ടു മാസത്തിനു ഉള്ളില്‍ തന്നെ എനിക്ക് U.G.C.- യുടെ ഒരു ഫെല്ലോഷിപ്പ് കിട്ടി. ആ ഫെല്ലോഷിപ്പ് ആദ്യ രണ്ടു വര്‍ഷം വലിയ തരക്കേടില്ലാതെ എന്നെ മുന്നോട്ടു നയിച്ചു.
